A two-member Nepali delegation led by Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Arjun Bahadur Thapa and Under-secretary Rambabu Dhakal, who looks after the Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) desk at the Ministry is leaving for Dhaka tomorrow to take part in the meeting to be held from November 18 to 19.
The meeting shall focus on the establishment of the Secretariat, its structure, appointment of staff and financial and physical support from the member countries, according to Joint Secretary Thapa.
The decision to establish the permanent secretariat was taken by the 13th ministerial level meeting of BIMSTEC held in Nay Pyi Taw of Myanmar in 2011.
The Government of Sri Lanka has recommended Director General of Economic Affairs Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Sri Lanka, Sumith Nakandala to the post of BIMSTEC General Secretary.
Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal are members of BIMSTEC founded in 2008.
