MAHENDRANAGAR, March 20 : Swamp deer, popularly known as Barasingha, will be relocated to Chitwan and Bardia from Suklaphata Wild Life Reserve for the first time in Nepal.
National Park authorities have informed that preparation for relocation of the endangered species has already started.
Two swamp deer translocated to CNP die
According to Gopal Bahadur Ghimire, communications officer at Suklaphata Wild Life Reserve, they are planning to relocate swamp deer to Bardia National Park first and then to Chitwan National Park.
Ghimire, who is also an assistant conservation officer, informed that 15 swamp deer will be relocated to Bardia. Hariyo Ban Program of USAID and National Trust for Nature Conservation are funding and providing technical support for the relocation.
Anil Prasain, chief of Suklaphata conservation office of National Trust for Nature Conservation, informed that 10 female and five male deer will be relocated to Bardia and 25 swamp deer to Chitwan National Park.
