KATHMANDU, Feb 9: A delegation led by Major General Gerald M. Strickland of the British Army presented the annual report of the Gurkha Brigade to President Ramchandra Paudel on Friday.
On the occasion, President Paudel noted that Nepal and the United Kingdom have been working together on issues related to development, human welfare, and peace at international forums, and that both countries share similar views on global peacekeeping through United Nations missions.
Highlighting the centuries-old close relationship between Nepal and the United Kingdom, President Paudel expressed gratitude for the UK’s continued support to Nepal, describing it as an important development partner that has consistently contributed to Nepal’s development efforts.
President receives annual report of Brigade of Gurkhas
The President also expressed satisfaction that the British Gurkhas, through their commendable service, have further strengthened bilateral relations between Nepal and the UK. He added that the presence of Nepali nationals in the United Kingdom has helped reinforce long-standing people-to-people ties between the two countries, according to the President’s Secretariat.
President Paudel further stated that diplomatic-level discussions are underway to address some legitimate grievances of former British Gurkhas, adding that the matter would be best resolved soon through bilateral mechanisms.
Thanking the UK government for submitting the Gurkha Brigade’s 2025 annual report, President Paudel said that the concerned authorities would carry out the necessary review of the document.
Speaking at the event, Major General Gerald M. Strickland praised the British Gurkhas, saying they have always remained at the forefront in service. He said he often reminds newly recruited Gurkha youths that they are sons and daughters of Nepal, and noted that the British people hold deep affection and respect for Nepali Gurkhas.
The event was also attended by British Ambassador to Nepal Rob Fenn.
