Bagmati Province records dismal progress in capital expenditure

While the current fiscal year 2024/25 has made halfway since its beginning, the Bagmati Province has only spent less than 12 percent of its annual budget.

BAGMATI, Dec 28: While the current fiscal year 2024/25 has made halfway since its beginning, the Bagmati Province has only spent less than 12 percent of its annual budget.


Information officer at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning of the province, Suraj Paudel, said the five months of the provincial government's current fiscal year utilized only 11.42 percent of the annual budget.

The provincial government had the budget of Rs 64.54 billion. Out of which, it was able to spend only Rs 7.37 billion in the past five months.


The Office of Chief Attorney stood top on spending 36.22 percent of the total, while the Province Assembly secretariat spent 23.90 percent. The least spending was of the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Cooperatives at only 2.57 percent.


Information Officer Paudel clarified that the first four months of the fiscal year has the trend of low budget spending. Some of the projects come into effect only after the fifth month of the fiscal year, so the spending would increase later, he added.
