Revamp your entry space
A hall can be a difficult space to get right. They’re often quite narrow and have only one light source so choosing the right color and furnishings is very important. It needs to be light and bright but also practical and durable. But adding furniture to a tiny space to spruce it up often leaves it more cramped than ever. Try these tips: Place a narrow console table near the wall and use it as a catch-all for keys and phones. Console tables are a great option in a hall as they are narrow and not intrusive. Use lamps or vases on a console table to add height. Hang art high on the wall so it doesn’t get knocked about during all the coming and going.
Reading nook
There are a few corners in your home that might have gone unnoticed, like the one where the underside of your stairs meets a wall. Consider transforming the nook into a cozy reading area. Make the most of that space by creating a cozy place for you or the kids to read. All it takes is a little do-it-yourself know-how. Create an elevated platform with a cushion for comfy seating then add some hidden storage beneath. Fill the nook with a collection of comfy pillows in a palette you like and settle in for a little comfort and quiet time.
Get creative
Often, one corner of a room will look blank or boring. Add architectural interest by leaning interesting artwork, a large mirror, or a salvaged door against the wall. Or set a floor lamp or plant in the corner. These classic distractions can play beautifully to other design elements in the room. High-back chairs are also perfect for corners. Place two high-back chairs in a corner facing out. Add a small table in between and a rug. This creates a perfectly cozy sitting area and breathes life into a relatively neglected and unused space.
Create a display area
A shelf will not only fill out the empty corner space effectively but will also increase your decorating options. Add a small shelving unit and fill it with your favorite goodies. Sometimes filling a corner with beautiful items is the best way to make use of the space. Freestanding shelves work well in a corner. Store extra dishes and pretty containers on the open shelves for a great-looking display. Put photos or pictures on both the walls of the corner area. It may be a single picture or a cluster of photos. A wall adornment when rightly used not only enhances the beauty of the neglected corner space but also lends it a unique personality.
Get a corner table
Small, three legged corner tables with angular tops have been used in corner decors for many years though they have somewhat disappeared from modern decors over the past few years. However, with the resurgence of classic decor styles, these too have made a grand comeback into interior decor. Just remember to pick a three legged corner table that matches all the other tables in the room and you can create a posh looking corner out of it. You can use this space as a study area or even to display your favorite knick knacks and photos. Create a small corner for a landline, a chalkboard and messages. While you’re at it, add a drawer. A drawer is a must-have for necessities like tape, scissors, rubber bands and loose change.
