DOHA, Dec 17: Nepal has reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption, emphasizing a strict zero-tolerance policy and ongoing reforms at the 11th Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) underway in Doha, according to a press statement issued by the Embassy of Nepal in Doha, Qatar.
Addressing the plenary session on Tuesday, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Gobinda Bahadur Karkee said the interim government formed after the historic public movement is focused on promoting good governance and strengthening anti-corruption measures. He noted that the government is pursuing robust legal, administrative, and institutional reforms to control corruption, the statement said.

Reiterating Nepal’s commitment to UNCAC, Karkee highlighted progress on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Action Plan and said the Second National Strategy and Action Plan against Corruption is in its final stage of preparation. He also said Nepal has criminalized bribery, abuse of authority, illicit enrichment, money laundering, and related offences in line with UNCAC provisions.
The Nepali delegation includes Joint Secretary Dr. Bhishma Kumar Bhusal, Chargé d’Affaires Kumar Rai, and First Secretary Amar Rai from the Embassy of Nepal in Doha. The conference, themed “Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” is considered the world’s largest global forum dedicated to fighting corruption, according to the Embassy.
