APF seizes 1,636 kg cannabis in Jhapa; two arrested

The Armed Police Force (APF) seized two trucks carrying 1,636 kilograms of cannabis from the Mechi Highway in Buddha Shanti Municipality-4, Jhapa.

KATHMANDU, March 22: The Armed Police Force (APF) seized two trucks carrying 1,636 kilograms of cannabis from the Mechi Highway in Buddha Shanti Municipality-4, Jhapa.


Mahesh Rai from Shahid Bhumi Municipality-4, Dhankuta, and 37-year-old Ganga Bahadur Basnet from Maijogamai Municipality-2, Ilam, were arrested. The Armed Police Force stopped the mini trucks, numbered Ko 1 Kha 5001 and Pra 1-02-002 Kha 0584, as they traveled towards Jhapa from Ilam, based on reliable information.

During the search, the police found 57 bags of cannabis and arrested the suspects. They also seized Rs 87,880 in cash and five mobile phones from their possession. Armed Police Assistant Spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Shailendra Thapa, confirmed the arrests and seizures. The police have handed the arrested individuals, cannabis, and trucks over to the relevant authorities for further action.
