KATHMANDU, March 23: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) delivered a spectacular performance in the opening match of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), defeating defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 7 wickets on Saturday.
At Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, RCB chased down a target of 175 runs in 16.2 overs, losing 3 wickets. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 59 runs, while captain Rajat Patidar scored 34 runs off 16 balls and Phil Salt made 56 runs off 31 balls. For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, and Sunil Narine each took one wicket, but their efforts were not enough to secure a win.

After losing the toss and batting first, KKR scored 174 runs in 20 overs, losing 8 wickets. Captain Ajinkya Rahane made 56 runs off 31 balls, and Sunil Narine added 44 runs off 26 balls. RCB's Krunal Pandya was outstanding, taking 3 wickets, while Josh Hazlewood claimed 2 wickets. Yash Dayal, Rasikh Salam, and Suyash Sharma each took one wicket.
Two matches are scheduled for today (Sunday) in IPL 2025. The first match will feature Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Hyderabad at 3:45 PM. The second match will take place between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in Chennai at 7:45 PM at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
