Tipped off by a source, the Crime Division squad arrested Biraj Tamang aka Nakkale, 26, from Dhanidhawa-7 of Nuwakot district, currently residing in Manamaiju. The police have also recovered a pistol and three rounds of bullets from his village home.
Police recovered the weapon and ammunition soon after Tamang confessed during preliminary investigation that he had hidden the pistol at his home in Nuwakot. The confiscated weapon was made in erstwhile Czechoslovakia.
Tamang is said to be an aide of notorious gangster Kumar Ghainte, who was shot dead by the police in an encounter some months ago. Tamang had been assigned to oversee crime-related activities in different areas from his base in Maharajgunj.
According to the police, Tamang was in their wanted list after opening fire on Anil Shrestha of Bidur, Nuwakot, seven years ago. He had been absconding after the attack. Similarly, Tamang was also alleged of hurling a socket bomb at a police team in Bidur-10, Nuwakot last year and accused of charging Khukuri to Dole Bahadur Ghale of Bidur-4, Nuwakot the same year.
Tamang has been sent to District Police Office, Nuwakot for further action.
