83-year-old woman gets citizenship ID card

RAUTAHAT, June 11: Magari Devi's happiness knew no bounds when she received her citizenship identity card as it took her 60 years of waiting to be legally called a citizen of Nepal.

The Area Administration Office, Chandranigahapur on Tuesday granted this 83-year-old woman the ID card.

Magari, a resident of Baalchanpur, Chandrapur Municipality-13 in Ratuahat district, said, "I am very happy," expressing her happiness on receiving the citizenship card, albeit towards the last quarter of her life.With the current legal document, Magari Devi now can enjoy the privileges provided by the State, including the elderly allowance (Rs 500 per month) availed to the people aged 70 or above.

This mother of one son was granted the ID card (322080/35) on the basis of marriage.

According to Girdhari Subedi, Under-Secretary at the Area Administration Office, Chandranigahapur, Magari, with a natal home at Dumri Gram Panchayat in Sitamadhi district of India, had moved to Nepal after getting married with a Nepali man some 60 years ago. RSS
