The jeep bearing Indian number plate (U.A. 05-3840) was crushed under the stone that fell off a roadside mountain at Tahasil in Dharchula of Uttarakhanda state, which borders Nepal´s Darchula district.[break]
The dead have been identified as Ganesh Singh Dhami, 22 and Dhanjit Sigh Dhami, 32 -- both of them from Rapla VDC-5 of Darchula district. The two Indian nationals who died in the accident have been identified as Karan Ram, the jeep driver, and Mangal Singh Bhandari.
According to Darchula-based journalist Bhoj Raj Joshi, who reached the accident site on Tuesday, Dhami duo had gone to India to buy food and other essentials for the Tihar festival. “Other Nepali passengers in the jeep are safe,” Joshi said.
The accident site, which is along a road being upgraded by the Indian government, is 21 kilometers north of Dharchula bazaar. The accident took place when the jeep moved on shortly after a huge rock was blasted to widen the road.
