2 held with 88 kg marijuana after exchange of fire

SIRAHA, June 7: Police on Friday caught two marijuana smugglers from Bishnupur of Siraha district.

According to DSP Uma Prasad Chatubardi of Area Police Office of Lahan, they have been identified as Khin Bahadur Magar, 48, and Ganga Bahadur Magar, 35, both from Muskar-1. Police confiscated 88 kg of marijuana, a UAE made automated pistol, a magazine, and six rounds of bullets from their possession, he informed.

The police had been tipped off that a large quantity of marijuana was being smuggled to India through Bishnupur. The smugglers sensed police following them and fired five rounds at them. Then the police team also fired three rounds, informed DSP Chatubardi.Ganga Magar sustained bullet in the thigh during the cross-fire.

While two were caught, two others fled, informed Lahan police post.

The marijuana comes from Udayapur and goes through Bishnupur then Sukhipur, Bariyar boarder and then reaches India. This route has become popular for smugglers.

After increased number of information, police have filed 43 smuggling cases within 10 months and held 59 smugglers.

According to the data provided by Lahan Police, 424kg marijuana, 13 quantities syringes, 687 bottle of corex, 2799 diazepam and 383 nitrosan have been confiscated so far.
