Valley receives heaviest rainfall so far

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The Weather Forecasting Division has said heaviest rain in 24 hours so far was recorded in the last 24 hours in the Kathmandu valley.



The Division has recorded 166 millimeters of rain in the valley. [break]



This is the highest rain measurement since record keeping started in Nepal.



Monsoon is still active in the latest days and can remain for two more weeks, said Senior Weather Expert Rajendra Shrestha. It usually remains for 110 days, he said.



Nepal has usually monsoon from June 10 to September 23 but can be a little flexible.



When weak, the monsoon goes from west to east. Nepal in June had 60 mm of rain, in July, 87 mm and in August it was 90 mm. To have 1400 mm rain in three months in the country is normal. This year, the rain is to be less than normal in the country.
