FNCCI proposes common economic agenda

KATHMANDU, June 28: Business community has proposed on Thursday a minimum common agenda for economic development and urged the government to announce budget on time by forging political consensus.



A high-level deligation from the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) led by its president Suraj Vaidhya urged Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to bring the annual budget on time by forging national consensus. [break]



On the occasion, Vaidhya floated a package of minimum economic agenda proposed by the private sector asking the PM to implement them by forging cosensus among the political parties.



Vaidhya also asked the PM to create a favorable environment for doing business. Stating that economic stability is the cornerstone for political stability, Vaidhya stressed the need for resolving the current political crisis in the country at the earliest. The deligation also stressed the need for establishing a mechanism on the initiative of the government to address the agendas raised by the private sector.



In response, the prime minister assured the private sector of establishing such a mechanism.



Meanwhile, the delegation also met Nepal Congress President Shushil Koirala and urged him to forge political consensus for timely budget.
