KATHMANDU, Jan 4: The Department of Commerce and Supply Management (DoCSM) on Friday carried out follow-up inspection at Kentucky Fried Chicken´s (KFC) Durbar Marg outlet.

During the inspection, a monitoring team found date-expired spices, vanilla cookies and chocolate sauce at the kitchen and store room of KFC, but they were kept separately, DoCSM officials said. [break]

“We found five packets of vanilla cookies and 11 packets of chocolate sauce inside a ´do not use´ box in the store room, while 1-kg packet of spice found in the kitchen was also placed separately,” said Prem Prasad Paudel, director of the DoCSM and the coordinator of the inspection team.

The team destroyed the packet of spice, vanilla cookies and chocolate sauce that had crossed the shelf life.

“We have instructed the management of KFC to destroy all date-expired products and report to the department within 7 days,” said Paudel. The team also suggested that the management keep date-expired products in a separate room and destroy it on regular basis.

Earlier on May 31, the DoCMS had found KFC using date-expired palm oil. At that time, the inspection team had destroyed 30 liters of date-expired palm oil and instructed the management to provide clarification within 3 days.
