DoCSM team inspects Salt Trading

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: A market monitoring team of Department of Commerce and Supply Management (DoCSM) on Tuesday took stock of sugar inventory at Salt Trading Corporation (STC).



The team led by Narayan Prasad Bidari, director general of DoCSM, took detailed information, including procurement and sales figures of sugar, from the state-controlled trading company ahead of the festive season.[break]



“We have instructed the STC management to furnish us details of sugar supplied to its dealers,” Bidari said, adding, “We have also asked the management to explain us why sugar price was raised ahead of the festive season.”



During the inspection, the team found that STC has sufficient sugar in its stock.



“We are investigating the overall transactions of STC; we will publish the report soon,” Lakshman Shrestha, director of DoCSM, said in the statement.



The team also inspected Mausam Trade Concern and Sijan Enterprises at Balaju, Mahanagar Khadya Kirana and Pradhan Store at Naya Bazaar, Tripura Khadya Store at Koteshwar and sales depot of Dugar Brothers Concern at Subhidhanagar. During the inspection, the team found that some stores were not displaying price list, some were found selling date expired products and some were operating without business registration certificate.



The team arrested Umesh Dhaubanjar, proprietor of Tripura Khadya Store for hoarding 140 sacks of sugar. He has been handed over to District Administration Office (DAO) for necessary investigation.



Meanwhile, a joint team of Department of Drug Administration, DoCSM, DAO Bhaktapur and District Public Health Office Bhaktapur on the day inspected six drug stores in Bhakatpur.



During the inspection, the team found that most of the drug stores were selling expired medicines and not keeping narcotics and psychotropic drugs separately. They were also found selling allopathic and ayurvedic medicines together.
