Shiwali Shrestha, media student, swears by an all-black outfit. She can mostly be seen wearing all-black ensembles that usually consist of black jeans, black hoodie, and black sneakers. She describes her fashion sense as being androgynous and often shops in the men’s section at clothing stores. However, ever so often, someone comments on how she dresses ‘like a boy’ or says that she has a ‘weird fashion sense’. Choosing not to follow the gender norms in her clothing choices indeed has a fair share of repercussions.

You go out for dinner and spill curry on your pretty pastel colored dress. You gave your kid a new set of crayons and now your living room walls are covered in ‘art’. Or you forgot to put the cap back on your pen and there are ink stains in your bag. Stains are inevitable. However, the good thing is most stains can be removed with some basic kitchen ingredients and some elbow grease.

There was a time when bags were all about utility. You got one or two, at the most, and used it to carry your stuff to school or college and then, as you got older, your sister’s fraying tote was what you shoved your necessities (wallet, tissue, lip balm) in when you were going out for brunch with friends on the weekend.

“Helambu mathi Ama Yangri, Ama Yangri wari Bhotang Gaun, Bhotang mathi Panch Pokhari.” The first time I heard this catchy Tamang selo was at a hotel in Tarkhegyang of Helambu region along with three other travel partners. Our minds created an alluring vision of Panch Pokhari and Bhotang village right then and there. That was in October 2016 and we were on our way back to Kathmandu from a trek to Gosainkunda. It took us, the same group of people, four years to finally turn our yearnings into reality and visit Panch Pokhari via Bhotang.

When was the last time you did something for the first time? Most of us are creatures of habit and because college and work can be pretty demanding, we also usually follow a set routine day in and day out for most part of the year. But sometimes you have to spice things up to keep life interesting.

The pressure to excel

Usually when I watch K-dramas, I’m expecting a rom-com fluff with some problematic but mostly cute elements. But when one of my friends told me about a drama called Skycastle (which received one of the highest ratings for any K-drama ever) that was not your generic rom-com but something much deeper, I was intrigued. Skycastle is a show about an elite society of doctors (all male) and their families whose only concern is to make sure their children follow in their footsteps and become doctors (sound familiar?) by getting them into the prestigious Seoul National University.
