KATHMANDU, April 5: The process of collecting voter details, which had been suspended for the House of Representatives election, is set to resume from today.

The Election Commission (EC) had halted the voter list collection process starting December 22 in preparation for the parliamentary elections. However, a meeting of the EC held on April 1 decided to restart the process.

According to Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, joint secretary and spokesperson of the commission, the previously suspended program will come back into operation from today.

The EC has also arranged for Nepali citizens who have obtained a national identity card number to register their names in the voter list through an online system using their national ID details.

For those not yet enrolled in the national identity card system, applicants must fill out an online form through the EC’s pre-enrolment system. They will then need to appear in person at the provincial or district election office to provide biometric details, including a photograph and fingerprints.

The EC has also allowed applications through online means to correct errors in the voter list, remove duplicate entries, and update records related to death or migration.

Similarly, voters can correct their names, addresses and other personal details to match their citizenship records. If there are multiple polling centers within the same ward, voters can also request to transfer their registration to a more convenient polling location.
