KATHMANDU, June 25: Students dissatisfied with the Grade 12 examination results released last week took to the streets on Thursday, staging a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu and demanding a review of the evaluation process.

The protesting students accused the government and the National Examination Board (NEB) of publishing “abnormal and flawed” results, claiming that errors in evaluation had affected their academic futures.

Carrying placards with messages such as “Why do students have to suffer for the minister’s ego?”, “Our future has been spoiled; where should we go for justice?”, ''Youth against NEB'', and “Our 12 years have been wasted; who should be held responsible? We need answers,” the students called for accountability and transparency.

They alleged irregularities in the result publication process and claimed that answer sheets were checked carelessly. The students also criticized the lack of an effective mechanism for re-evaluation and retotalling.

They have demanded a fair investigation, free retotalling, rechecking of answer sheets, and transparency in the evaluation system.

A total of 104,711 students failed the Grade 12 examination held from April 27 to May 10. Of the 332,241 regular students who appeared for the exam, 231,770 students passed.
