CHITWAN, July 28: Vehicular movement along the East-West Highway that was closed since Monday evening following a bridge collapse in Gaindakot, resumed from Tuesday evening.

Thousands of passengers were left stranded after the 32-meter long bridge over the Jayashree stream in Nawalparasi district along the highway bucked at around 6 pm yesterday evening.

“Transportation resumed after a diversion was constructed below the bridge,” engineer Bishnu Khanal at Division Road Office, Butwal said, adding, they are working to widen the diversion further.

The office plans to install a bailey bridge stating that repairing the bridge is not possible immediately.
