SPORTS BRIEFS: Basnet wins race with one crutch

KATHMANDU, April 17: Nokhi Basnet won the 200 m race with one crutch during the Physically Disabled and Mentally Retarded Open Race Tournament on Saturday at the Dasharath Stadium.



In the men´s category, Bam Bahadur Shrisha secured the first position. In the 200 m race in the mentally retarded category, Dimple Pun and Prakash Karki won the race in women´s and men´s category respectively. Likewise, Sushma BK and Meghnath Dhakal won the race in 200 m with two crutches. [break]



Rupa Tiwari and Rishiram Banskota won the 200 m race for people with weak hands. In the 200 m race in weak legs category, Nirmala Nepali and Bimal Chaudhary won their respective races.



In the dwarf 200 m race, Laxmi Ojha and Sumesh Kunwar emerged winners. In the 400 m wheelchair race, Jhalak Adhikari and Sarita Thapa won the titles while in the 400 m three-wheeler race the title went to Anju Baral.



Altogether 35 men and 35 women from all five development regions participated in the tournament organized by Nepal Paralympic Committee.









Advance defeat Paradise




KATHMANDU, April 17: Advance English School of Mahottari defeated Paradise Children´s Academy, Kapilvastu by six wickets in the U-16 National T20 Cricket Tournament being held in Bhairahawa.



Paradise opted to bat first after winning the toss on Saturday and scored 63 runs in 15.4 overs losing all wickets. Advance met the target in 8.3 overs at the cost of four wickets.





Shah wins TT title



KATHMANDU, April 17: Sejarin Shah won the title of the First Men´s and Women´s Veterans Table Tennis Tournament in the women´s singles 45 plus age category.



Shah defeated Chalita Basukala 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 in the final held at the National TT Training Center, Lainchaur on Saturday.



In the women´s singles 55 plus age group, Rita Mukherjee eased past Minerva Manandhar 11-2, 11-5, 11-1 to claim the first position.



Nabin Bahadur Shakya won the final of men´s singles 45 plus age group in the tournament organized by Nepal Amateur Veterans Athlete Committee. Shakya beat Pradeep Rajbhandari 11-7, 6-11, 8-11, 11-1, and 11-5.



Likewise, Aanand Ratna Dhakhwa thrashed Uday Mohan Shrestha 11-8, 14-12, 13-11 in the final of men´s singles 55 plus age category.
