KHOTANG, June 13: The south of Khotang district has remained cut off from telephone connection since the past three weeks, after the May 23 storm brought down the telephone towers.

More than 22 VDCs in the area have been affected after the telephone tower in Hongmapokhari and Khotang bazaar were dismantled by the heavy winds, according to police inspector Sunil Dahal of Area Police Office in Chisapani.

With internet services also not available, financial institutions as well as remittance services have been affected. As a result, the service recipients have been forced to travel for hours to nearby Udayapur to make a call, local teacher Santosh Dhakal said.

Meanwhile, Chief of the Nepal Telecom in Khotang Bharoshi Shah said the telephone service would resume in a day or two." A technical team is being sent along with the required goods to bring the two towers in Chisapani and Khotang bazaar back into operation", he said. RSS
