Over 3,000 criminal fugitives arrested last month

KATHMANDU, Feb 23: The Nepal Police has intensified its search for individuals involved in various criminal activities.

In this effort, the police arrested 3,264 fugitive defendants in Magh (mid-January to mid-February), with the highest number of arrests made in the Kathmandu Valley. The police have been actively searching for individuals who have not yet paid fines or served their prison sentences even after being convicted by the court.

Police teams deployed in the nationwide search operation have arrested fugitive criminals involved in various criminal activities, and those convicted by the court, Nepal Police’s central spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General of Police Dinesh Kumar Acharya informed Republica.

The authorities have collected a total fine of Rs 239.29 million from the arrested individuals. According to spokesperson Acharya, police have arrested 527 fugitives from Koshi Province and 713 from Madhesh Province.

Similarly, the police have arrested 170 fugitives from Bagmati Province (excluding the Kathmandu valley), 217 from Gandaki Province, 583 from Lumbini Province, 55 from Karnali Province, and 89 from Sudurpaschim Province. The highest number of arrests occurred in the Kathmandu Valley, where authorities arrested 903 fugitives. The Central Investigation Bureau arrested seven fugitives from various regions.
