They also said that the country should increase investment in infrastructure sector establish better connectivity with markets of other Asian countries.
Speaking at 'Annual Economic Diplomacy Conference 2015' organized by Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (AIDIA) in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Ambassador of India to Nepal, Ranjit Rae, said that Nepali business sector has huge comparative advantages. "Connectivity is a must for hassle-free and seamless trade. We have to do something to increase connectivity. Series of initiatives have been also taken in this regard in recent days," Rae said. "Private sector should be attracted in each other's country for trade purpose."
Similarly, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, Mashfee Binte Shams, said that Nepal, which is positioned uniquely between India and China, can play a larger role in the South Asian region. "Since Nepal holds immense potential for hydro electricity development, regional electricity grid should be built to feed the growing electricity demand of South Asian countries," she added.
Rensje Teerink, Ambassador and Head of EU Delegation to Nepal, also underscored the need to increase investment in infrastructure sector for enhancing regional integration and trade. "More investment in infrastructure is needed. The recent closure of airport for four days shows how dependent Nepal is on its single international airport. This also highlights the growing needs of investment in infrastructure including aviation sector," said Teerink.
Likewise, Meera H Sanyal, leader of India's Aam Aadmi Party, said Nepal should be able to tap its vast potential of tourism and hydropower. "Nepal can be a premier tourism destination. The golden opportunity should be tapped by letting innovation and enterprises to bloom," she added.
