KATHMANDU, Nov 16: An emergency meeting of UCPN (Maoist)’s Central Committee decided go in for the 11th amendment to the interim constitution without ignoring the spirit of the report earlier prepared by the parliamentary State Restructuring Committee.

During the meeting, the dissent  faction  led by party Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya was convinced that the amendment to the statute would take place, only after giving due space for concerns about the amendment in the Terms of Refernce (ToR) of the proposed experts´ panel for state restructuring. The Maoists will now hold further talks with Nepali Congress and CPN-UML on the party decision.

Early in the day, top leaders of the three parties had agreed to pass the statue amendment bill that would pave way for the formation of the expert panel.

The CC meeting meeting was called after the Baidya faction raised serious concerns over the agreement to amend the statute.

The faction has been resisting the idea of the formation of a panel of experts, arguing that it would infringe on the jurisdiction of the Constituent Assembly.
