Leaving behind this pathetic scene at home, Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat flew to Azerbaijan to attend a donor meeting organized by the Asian Development Bank on Saturday. Three other officials including Joint Secretary Madhu Marasini have accompanied Mahat. Media reports say that the government has done very little to reach to the earthquake survivors. Survivors in Nuwakot, Mahat's home district, alone are yet to get any relief materials.
Jayaraj Acharya, foreign affairs expert who also served as Nepal's permanent Representative to the United Nations, said that such visits at the time of this crisis is absolutely reprehensible.
Talking to Republica over Viber from Azerbaijan, Marasini said that the meeting is important to attend as it is an annual meeting of ADB and also ADB arranged a special session 'Partnership with Nepal Forum' to discuss with all the international donors on collecting resources for the earthquake.
"Sunday's meeting was very fruitful," added Marasini. The meeting will end on Monday.
"They wanted to discuss with Nepal the rehabilitation plan of the government and it was also an opportunity to meet with all the donors," said Mahesh Acharya, Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation, adding that the visit was prepared in special request of ADB.
