President Paudel departs for Azerbaijan to participate in COP-29, Vice President takes charge

KATHMANDU, Nov 10: At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, President Ram Chandra Paudel left for Azerbaijan on Sunday evening to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP-29) in Baku.

KATHMANDU, Nov 10: At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, President Ram Chandra Paudel left for Azerbaijan on Sunday evening to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP-29) in Baku.


Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, and other senior officials bade farewell to President Paudel at Tribhuvan International Airport.

President Paudel will lead Nepal's delegation at the COP-29 conference and address two special sessions on November 12 and 13. The conference will focus on global climate action and negotiations aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change.


Nepal, being one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, plans to highlight the severe impacts of global warming. Among the issues to be presented at the conference will be the damage caused by unusual weather events in regions like Melamchi, Mustang, Kanchanpur, Thame, and the Kathmandu Valley.


In the President's absence, Vice President Ram  Sahay Yadav will assume the duties of the head of state. According to a statement from the Office of the President, President Paudel has officially delegated his responsibilities to Vice President Yadav in line with Article 67, Clause 2 of the Constitution of Nepal.
