Speaking at a press meet organized by Reporters´ Club at his residence, Koirala, who will soon be heading the High Level Political Committee (HLPC), said that he will take initiatives to ensure representation of both the Upendra Yadav-led MPRF-N and the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist in HLPM for timely election. Earlier, the four major political forces agreed to head HLPC for a month by turns. Koirala will head HLPM as UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is about to complete his one-month term.
“I will do everything possible to forge consensus with them [Baidya and Yadav]. I will also ask them to join HLPM and break the four-party syndicate,” he said. “I will take initiatives in this regard after Dahal returns from China.”
Koirala said though he had proposed bringing both Baidya and Yadav on HLPC, this could not happen due to lack willingness of other parties. He expressed confidence that CPN-Maoist will participate in the election as its leader Mohan Baidya is a principled and honest leader and is known for his sacrifice.
On the occasion, Koirala also clarified that NC would forge an alliance with other democratic forces. “The country is in a difficult situation. We therefore need to work together,” he said, adding that the alliance would ensure victory of democratic candidates.
Koirala also asked all concerned not to cast doubts over NC´s commitment to federalism. “We also concluded during the party´s Mahasamiti meeting to stand in favor of federalism,” he said. “The meeting has also proposed to have not more than seven provinces as more than seven provinces would not be economically viable.”
Koirala also said preparations are under way to hold general convention of the sister wings of the party.
