Japan party assure support for quake victims

KATHMANDU, May 11: Top leaders of Japan's main opposition party, Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), have assured full support and cooperation to Nepal in the tasks of rehabilitation of the country's economy through reconstruction and recovery efforts.

In a brief meeting with Nepal's ambassador to Japan Dr Madan Kumar Bhattarai on Monday, President of the DPJ Katsuya Okada and top leader of the party Yukio Edano and Head of the party's foreign affairs cell, Yukihisa Fujitac gave the assurance.The International Relations Department of the DPJ had hosted a reception Monday in Tokyo by inviting all ambassadors based in Japan. As a special show of honour to the memory of the victims of the massive earthquake in Nepal, one minutes' silence was observed and prayers were offered for early recovery of those who are injured, according to a press statement issued by Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo.

It may be recalled that DPJ President Okada had sent a letter of condolences to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on the huge loss of human lives apart from injuries to several thousands and destruction and damage of houses. The party has also made donations for Nepal and is keen to raise more funds through its members to support Nepal in coping with the present situation in the aftermath of disaster of great magnitude for which the country was not prepared.
