Investors gains Rs 7 billion from share transaction as NEPSE gains 3.42 points in a week

KATHMANDU, Feb 1: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) gained 3.42 points during three days of trading last week.

The market opened at 2,654.35 points on Sunday and closed at 2,657.77 points on Tuesday. The government declared public holidays on Wednesday and Thursday to mark the Martyrs’ Day and Sonam Lhosar, respectively. During the review period, the index rose as high as 2,662.36 points while it dropped as low as 2,625.58 points, posting a fluctuation of 101.48 points.

The secondary market opened on Sunday for weekday-trading on a negative note with a decline of 10.41 points, which continued on the following day with the index going down by 10.66 points. On Tuesday, the market however surged 24.50 points to close for the week.

Six out of the 13 groups were the gainers. Development banks were the largest gainers as their index increased by 5.46 percent. The trading index declined by the largest of 2.34 percent.

Among individual companies, Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited stood as the topmost gainer by adding 29.85 percent to its market value, while Dolti Power Company Ltd lost the largest of 15.98 percent of its market value. Saptakoshi Development Bank had the highest turnover of its shares worth Rs 1.06 billion.

The total turnover amount slumped to Rs 27.45 billion from Rs 36.07 billion. The average daily turnover however increased 26.83 percent to Rs 9.15 billion.

The market capitalization increased to Rs 4.409 trillion from Rs 4.402 trillion, which ensured investors with capital gains of Rs 7 billion in their investment portfolio in the review period. In the previous week, the investors gained Rs 109 billion from shares trading.
