From July 20 to 26, IFA is organizing a seven-day workshop on scriptwriting entitled “Screenplay for Innovative Nepali Writers and Filmmakers.”[break]
The training will primarily focus on the process and the tools required for producing dramatic and/or fiction narratives through screenwriting.
Participants will explore oral storytelling, writing for the screen, as well as engage with other digital technologies. Together, these supportive tools will act as the catalyst to reveal stories of resilience and courage from the participants’ different perspectives.
Under the guidance of mentors and film professionals, participants will translate the story from their words into script form. Having learnt and employed the screenwriting skills taught throughout the workshop, participants will complete a final screenplay that will include strong descriptive visuals, tight dialogues, emotional engagements, story structures, character development, subtexts, and tensions. The training will also incorporate research techniques, distinctive styles, and the collaborative nature of filmmaking.
“It’s really upsetting that people have this conception that doctors and engineers are the only professionals. Many people still look down upon the film industry,” said Sanjog Laaphaa Magar, the Board Secretary of IFA and the coordinator of this event. “We support the scriptwriting department and want to focus on that. We want to do justice to the art of filmmaking,” he added.
The workshop begins at 9 o’clock in the morning and ends at 5 pm every day for the entire program.
