KATHMANDU, May 14: Local workers have filed a case in Kalikot District Administration Office against a consumers’ committee accusing it of embezzling Rs 1.1 million while constructing the Zero Point-Manma Pipal Chautara section of road along the Karnali Highway.

According to local worker Ram Bahadur Simkhada, the case was filed after the committee did not pay the workers even though it had taken Rs 1.1 million from the District Development Committee (DDC), Kalikot, to pay the workers. [break]

The DDC had provided a total of Rs 1.4 million for the road.

The laborers claimed that committee chairman, vice chairman, secretary and treasurer had taken received the amount from the DDC and shared it among themselves rather than paying the workers.

“The committee was formed through a political consensus. So all the parties in the district will be called for discussion on the case,” said Chief District Officer Durga Dutta Dhakal.
