Gansgter Lama sent to jail after failing to submit bail

KATHMANDU, July 18:The Special Court on Thursday sent gangster Ganesh Lama to Dilli Bazaar Sadarkhor Jail, after he failed to submit a bail amount of Rs 30 million.

A three-member bench of the Special Court Chairman Kedar Prasad Chalise and members Bhupendra Prasad Rai and Mohan Raman Bhattarai issued the order after hearings on whether or not to send Lama to judicial custody.

Talking to media persons after the court order, Lama said that he was made a victim of conspiracy as he is a politician. He also stated that he would appeal against the Special Court order.

Earlier, Lama was sent to Singh Durbar Police sector on Wednesday after the court could not conclude the hearings on whether he should be sent to judicial custody. He has been accused of amassing Rs 270 million through extortions, illegal contracts and banking transactions, among other illegal activities.

Lama, who is also central committee member of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic led by Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, had appeared before the court on Wednesday three days after missing the second deadline given by the Special Court.

The Special Court had issued a second notice to Lama to appear before the court by Sunday. Lama had missed the first deadline to appear before the court on June 30.
Gangsters Parshuram Basnet and Chakre Milan, who are also charged with amassing properties through illegal sources, had appeared before the court as per the notice issued by the Special Court. Basnet was released on bail while Milan is in the central jail for his involvement in drug smuggling and other charges.

The Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DoMLI) on May 19 had filed cases against Lama, Basnet, Milan, Abhishek Giri and Dipak Manange.
