Exhibition Road tense, police cordon off the area

KATHMANDU, March 19: Police have cordoned off the Exhibition Road in the capital on Thursday with the situation in the area very tense.



About five-six trucks of police have positioned themselves near the Ratna Rajyalaxmi (RR) Campus on the Exhibition Road to prevent any eruption of clashes between rival student wings. [break]



No vehicles are being allowed in the area from either the Bus Park or Putali Sadak.



The Free Students´ Election has been postponed at most colleges, including the RR Campus, on the Exhibition Road.



Student wing of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), All Nepal National Independent Students´ Union-Revolutionary, has taken out a "victory" rally, saying they "won" the election at Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus.



They student leaders of ANNISU-R have just finished their "victory" speech.



Meanwhile, Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Students´ Union leaders said they too are planning a "victory" rally.



Election at Balmiki Campus in the area has started smoothly.
