KATHMANDU, Oct 28: There are many reasons to attend the Inter Nation Dance Show – East to West, which is scheduled to take place on November 1 at the auditorium of St Xavier’s School in Jawalakhel.

First, the 2-hour-long program will offer audience entertainment through a collection of various dance styles. Second, the event is a fundraiser which will support two non-profit organizations: Tewa, a Nepal’s Women’s Fund and Sushila Arts Academy, an institution which supports the Arts. [break]

“When you support women, you are supporting half the population and the benefit of supporting them also trickles down to their family members,” said Astha Thapa Pande, Executive Director of Tewa, encouraging participation from the general public to be a part of the evening.

The evening will take the audience through Eastern dance forms – Bharatnatyam and Charya; Flamenco – a Western dance form, and a fusion of Kathak and Flamenco. While K Bhavya and her group from the Indian Cultural Center will perform Bharatnatyam, the traditional Nepali Charya dance will be performed by Kiran Maharjan and Troupe. Similarly Maradee de’ Guzman will perform Flamenco whereas Subina Shrestha from Nritya Aagan will give the audience a unique taste of the Kathak and Flamenco fusion.

Managed and produced by JJ Sultans (JST) as one of their quarterly fundraising events, ‘Inter Nation Dance Show – East to West’ also has an added objective, Prasang Shrestha, the Director of JST shared. “Through this event, we are looking to especially promote Charya, which is a Nepali classical dance form that sadly, not many Nepalis are aware about,” said Shrestha.

The show will start at 5 pm and tickets, priced at Rs 500 each, can be collected at the door or at outlets such as Café Cheeno and The Embers Restaurant in Pulchowk, Nanglo Bakery and Café outlets, Salsa Dance Academy in Baluwatar and Sushila Arts Academy and Nina’s Café in Maharajgunj.
