KATHMANDU, April 1: Domestic airfares in Nepal have increased following a surge in aviation fuel prices. Nepal Oil Corporation raised the price of domestic aviation fuel by Rs 124 per liter, bringing it to Rs 251, which prompted airlines to adjust ticket prices.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has issued new minimum and maximum fare guidelines for domestic flights, effective from Wednesday. For instance, the maximum fare for the Kathmandu–Dhangadhi route is now Rs 23,059.
Airline operators have expressed dissatisfaction with the 100 percent hike in aviation fuel prices while prices for fuel in other sectors remained unchanged. They have criticized the policy, saying that increasing costs for airlines—considered the backbone of domestic tourism—creates an added financial burden and could discourage domestic travel.
