Daily turnover jumps to six month high at Rs 14.25 billion

KATHMANDU, March 2: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday increased by a whopping 75.24 points to close at 2,890.28 points.

The secondary market opened at 2,815.04 points, gained 30 points within the first 15 minutes and hovered at the same level for the next one and a half hour. In the remaining period, the index went uphill to post 2.67 percent overall gain.

Only mutual funds out of the 13 groups went down by 0.25 points. Life insurance secured the largest gain of 601.64 points. All the groups related to banks and financial institutions also posted notable gain in their indices.

The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, also inclined 14.47 points. Daily turnover was Rs 14.25 billion for the day.

Among the individual companies, 196 were gainers while 44 were registered as losers. Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited enjoyed the biggest turnover of its shares worth Rs 975.37 million.

Himalayan Distillery Limited, Guardian Micro Life Insurance Limited and Nepal Life Insurance Co Ltd, by adding 10 percent in their market values, were recorded as the topmost gainers. Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited suffered the largest loss and was recorded as the highest loser.
