Black flags greet PM, Prez

KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Cadres of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) pelted stones at the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal´s motorcade and waved black flags at Nepal and President Ram Baran Yadav during the Indra Jatra celebrations on Thursday.



Yadav reached Basantapur at 5 pm while Nepal had been 15 minutes early.



Nepal´s motorcade was attacked on his way to Basantapur while the Moaists waved black flags at Yadav in Basantapur. The police had to push the flag waving Maoists out of the area before the chariot of Kumari made its way.



The police chased away the stone pelting Maoists who in turn beat up two policemen. A few Maoist cadres have been arrested.



The Maoists advocating for civilian supremacy have been boycotting programs attended by the president and prime minister since August 27 and 31 respectively.
