Biratnagar, Oct 5 : With water levels rising in the Saptakoshi River, all 56 gates of the Koshi Barrage have been opened. The river’s flow has reached 335,360 cusecs, according to officials.
Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar Thebe of Sunsari District Police Office said that the gates were opened as a precautionary measure. Light vehicles are still allowed to cross the Koshi Bridge, while heavy vehicles have been restricted.
SP Thebe added that a decision on whether to completely suspend traffic will be made after further consultation with engineers and technical experts. Incessant rainfall in the eastern hill districts has caused the water level in the river to rise significantly.
