The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) reduced load-shedding effective from Monday citing increased domestic production due to the increased water level in rivers. But it has not changed schedule for Morang-Sunsari region as the increased power does not reach the region, says engineer at the Duhabi grid Birendra Jha.
The grid said that eight-hour load-shedding will be enforced for the time being as only one of the two circuits to import electricity from Kataiya, India damaged by Koshi floods on August 18 last year has been repaired.
The power imported from Kataiya has been used exclusively in the region since February 26 and hence it is cut off from the rest of the national grid rendering the increased domestic power generation meaningless for the region.
The grid informed that 70MW of electricity can be imported from the line once the construction is complete. But power problem will stay until the construction is complete. Only 45MW is currently being imported from Kataiya.
