33-party alliance may call off general strike, says Gajurel

BIRATNAGAR, Nov 8: Amid pressure from multiple quarters, the disgruntled 33-party alliance is mulling over to call off 10-day nationwide general strike.



Talking to correspondents in Biratnagar on Friday, CPN-Maoist leader CP Gajurel hinted that the alliance may withdraw the nationwide strike as people have urged to do so. [break]



Earlier, the CPN-Maoist-led alliance had announced nationwide general strike aiming at thwarting Constituent Assembly election slated for Nov 19.



However, leader Gajurel said that the alliance has not made any decision so far to this effect. “There are suggestions from multiple quarters to cut-down general strike,” Gajurel said, adding, “Off course, we will reconsider to make a decision in this regard.”



Gajurel further said that the election is a matter of concern for only major parties, a few big media houses and the election commission.



He claimed that due to major parties the country is fearing of violence.Leader Gajurel further warned that the situation may be unpredictable if the government tries to quell agitation programs launched by the poll-opposing forces.
