KALIKOT, May 8: Villagers attacked the police and a victim's family while police were trying to arrest an accused who was absconding following rape charges. According to the District Police Office, Kalikot, the villagers attacked the police team which had gone to arrest the rape-accused, Sankalpa Buda, 31, of Palanta Rural Municipality-6, Sain.
When the police handcuffed Buda and were bringing him to the district headquarters, the locals attacked the victim's family along with the police. Assistant Sub-inspector Laxmi Dhungel Rawat of the Area Police Office, Palanta, and Dhan Man BK, a member of the victim's family, were injured in the attack by the villagers, said Police Inspector Shubharaj Bam of the District Police Office, Kalikot.
Police arrest two agents trying to settle rape case
Both the injured are being treated at a local health post. The police said that the condition of the injured BK is serious. Both the injured are being prepared to be rescued by helicopter. Acting Chief District Officer Saroj Adhikari said that a letter has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs to send a helicopter to rescue the injured.
The rape-accused Buda escaped with weapons. Police chief Bam said that additional teams were deployed from the district police office and nearby police stations to search for him.
According to the police, Bud allegedly had raped a Dalit woman of the village on 16 October 2022. The victim's family filed a complaint at the district police office on October 26. After receiving information that Buda, who has been absconding since then, had come to his house, four police personnel including ASI Dhungel went to arrest him at 4 o'clock on Monday morning. The villagers attacked the police while they handcuffed Buda who was sleeping at home and were bringing him to the district headquarters.
