KATHMANDU, Aug 22: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has directed the authorities concerned to take necessary measures to check illegal imports of live chicken and meat.
After holding a meeting of the government officials and private entrepreneurs held in the presence of Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Tuesday, the MoHA has asked Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and all the district administration offices to implement the decision. The ministry has also directed the authorities to shut down all the chicken farms, slaughter houses, hatcheries and cold stores being operated illegally in Nepal-India border areas.

Of late, the smuggling of live chicken and meat is reported to have been rising. Taking undue benefits of the open border, the traders involved in the malpractice have been found importing the farm products from India.
Meanwhile, the MoHA has also asked the authorities to intensify vigilance at the customs points while improving the effectiveness of the quarantine check of the imported organic products.
