KATHMANDU, Nov 12: The High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization (HPCIDBC) has issued a notice to remove the squatter settlements on the banks of major rivers in Kathmandu Valley.

While issuing a notice on Friday, the HPCIDBC said that it has given 10 days time to remove the houses and other structures that are built illegally on the river bank.

"Due to the unauthorized construction of houses/towers and the accumulated construction materials and vehicles on the banks of the Bagmati and its tributaries within the Kathmandu Valley, the beautification work on both sides of the river has been seriously hampered. Despite being notified several times in the past, the public notices have been ignored until now. As the right and left banks of the river have not been cleared, everyone concerned must be informed to remove such houses/towers and accumulated construction materials and vehicles by November 20,” said the statement.

The HPCIDBC has said that if the river bank is not cleared within the given deadline, such structures will be demolished with the help of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and other relevant agencies.
