Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the coordinator of the 30-party alliance, held a meeting at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar to forge consensus in the disputed issues of the new constitution but failed to make any headway.
After the meeting, Chairman Dahal said that talks and agitation would be taken ahead side by side as no assurance was achieved from the ruling parties for constitution promulgation only on consensus of major stakeholders of the Comprehensive Peace Accord and other movements.
"Talks with the Prime Minister were positive. I will put this issue at the meeting of 30-party alliance. But, the alliance will not sit by stopping the movement as the Prime Minister is hesitating to assure that the constitution will be made only from the consensus of the parties involved in the CPA," Dahal said after the meeting with the PM.
Dahal shared that the opposition waited for four days hoping some initiatives for consensus from the ruling parties adding that the environment turned bitter after the ruling parties floated the nine-point proposal again on Saturday's meeting.
The UCPN (Maoist) Chairman further said that the oppositions were committed to bring the constitution based on consensus through talks though they announce the agitation programmes.
He, however, said the ongoing dialogue will not end as the Prime Minister was in line with the spirit of consensus.
After the meeting, Nepali Congress spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu said that consensus has been forged to give continuity to the talks, stating that serious consultations were held in the disputed issues of constitution between the two leaders.
Badu added the Prime Minister has expressed hope that consensus can be forged through mutual talks whatever ups and downs surfaced in the talks on Friday and Saturday.
Likewise, issuing a press statement, Prime Minister's press coordinator Prakash Adhikari has expressed confidence that consensus can be forged based on mutual talks, coordination, unity and conciliation among the parties.
"Prime Minister Koirala has urged Dahal to take the constitution building process to its logical end by giving continuity to the talks without being disappointed from the ups and downs happened during the time of talks," reads the statement. RSS
