Dr KC's health worsening

By No Author
KATHMANDU, Aug 16: Dr Govinda KC’s health condition has further deteriorated on the fourth day of his hunger strike that he has been staging on the TU Teaching Hospital (TUTH) premises in Maharajgunj, on Thursday.

With his condition worsening, the doctors have made a makeshift ICU nearby as he might require to be treated on ventilator anytime now. KC has tested positive in his ketone test. The presence of ketone has direct bearings on the functioning of kidneys. [break]

Dr Dibya Singh Shah, who is involved in KC’s medical assessment, attributed KC’s declining health to the lowering level of glucose in his body due to a stoppage of food intake. KC has refused to eat.

The Nepal Doctors’ Association Wednesday night expressed serious concerns over the persistent deterioration in KC’s health condition. Expressing solidarity to the strike, the NDA has urged the government to do the needful before it is too late.

Dr KC had re-started Monday his fast-unto-death, demanding that the government appoint officials, including the dean, at TUTH on the basis on seniority and merit, but not through political influence.
