Excavation to look for Buddha's maternal home initiated

By No Author
BUTWAL, April 15: The birthplaces of the Lord Buddha´s mother Mayadevi, his caretaker aunt Gautami Prajapati and wife Yashodhara are as important as the place where Siddhartha Gautam Buddha Budhhar was born for the Buddhists.

However, such historical places where the persons holding wider scale of significance in the life of the Lord Buddha were given birth have yet to be identified.

Though the Devdaha area has been claimed to be the maternal home of Buddha, its archeological and ancient evidence supporting the claim has not been found to this date.

The truth is still elusive due to lack of focused efforts  to identify the places related to the Buddha.

The Department of Archeology has recently initiated excavation at Bhawanipur, Kerwani of Rupandehi, which is assumed to be one of the sites where maternal home of Buddha is located.
