Nepse snaps 10-week gaining streak

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index opened the week with a modest gain. The benchmark climbed 3.67 points on Sunday. Thereafter, the equity market witnessed notable dip with the index sinking 32.68 points on Monday followed by a 21.16 point’s decline on Tuesday.

Nepse sheds 45 points

KATHMANDU, Feb 25: Following a small recovery in Wednesday, the Nepalese equity market extended its correction on Thursday. The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index witnessed constant pressure in the session. After trading unchanged for about half an hour, the benchmark saw a steady decline eventually finishing at 2,554.14 – down 44.94 points against the session earlier.

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: The equity market opened Wednesday’s session in green but a minor correction pulled the Nepse index towards red in the morning. Nonetheless, stocks recovered after mid-day and traded in green throughout the latter trading hours. At the close, Nepse stood 12.56 points higher to finish at 2,599.08.

KATHMANDU, Feb 23: The equity market came under significant selling pressure and dropped around 50 points in the morning before staging a small rebound. However, the stock market continued to struggle in the afternoon with the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index dropping as much as 90 points. A recovery in the final closing hours saw the benchmark end Tuesday’s session with a 21.16 point’s decline at 2,586.51.

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: The Nepalese equity market opened Monday’s session in green but gave up morning gains within the first trading hour. Stocks remained under pressure thereafter and fell more than 20 points at mid-session. Further selling pressure towards the closing hours saw the benchmark close with a loss of 32.67 points at 2,607.67.

KATHMANDU, Feb 21: After opening firmly in green, the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index saw a steady decline in the morning to trade more than 18 points lower before mid-day. However, a recovery in the afternoon pushed the benchmark in the positive territory. The index plateaued in the remaining trading hours finally closing Sunday’s session with a 3.66 point’s gain at 2,640.35.

Nepse closes week on a positive note

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: The benchmark index opened Thursday’s session higher in the pre-opening session, but the index gave up most of its earlier gains within first trading hours. Nonetheless, the equity market maintained its footing in green throughout the latter trading hours. At the close, Nepse settled at 2,636.68 – up 25.83 points against the session earlier.

Nepse climbs higher, but volumes dip

KATHMANDU, Feb: Despite opening Wednesday’s session in green, the index fell in the morning and traded briefly in red. However, with bank stocks seeing upbeat movement, the market traded in positive territory throughout the afternoon. At the close, Nepse ended 9.94 points higher at 2,611.45.

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index opened in green and traded over 29 points higher in morning and continued to maintain in the positive territory for most of the trading session. However, the index pulled back in negative side with a meager decrement towards the last trading hour. Nonetheless, the benchmark index quickly recovered and ended the day 15.50 points higher at 2601.51 points.

Stocks rally erasing four-day losses

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Stocks witnessed a sharp rally in the morning with the benchmark reaching as high as 2,565 mark. A minor correction saw the Nepse index erase some of its morning gains. However, strength in the latter trading hours pushed the index higher. Following a steady surge until the closing bell, Nepse closed Monday’s session with 92.42 point’s gain at 2,586.01.

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: The benchmark index opened Wednesday’s session higher, but a sharp correction dragged Nepse more than 20 points lower in the morning. A recovery followed suit where the index recouped all of its morning losses. The index, thereafter, traded flat along the opening level for most of the afternoon finally ending the day with a modest gain. Nepse ended trading at 2,543.03 – up 8.66 points against the session earlier.

KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The equity market opened Tuesday’s session in green but gave up its gains in the latter trading hours. After trading briefly in red in the morning, some recovery in the bourse ensued. However, with active profit taking seen in majority of sectors, selling pressure was evident in afternoon trading hours. Nepse ended the day with a loss of 29.01 points at 2,532.46.

KATHMANDU, Feb 8: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index opened Monday’s session firmly higher but saw some retracement in the morning. Another advance followed suit with the index reaching as high as 2,560 points around mid-day. Stocks saw another correction in the afternoon. However, a final hour surge saw the index finish with a gain of 37.48 points slightly off its intraday high at 2,561.48.

Nepse posts 50-point weekly gain

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: The local benchmark came under notable pressure in the beginning of the week with the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) shedding more than 54 points on Sunday. Nonetheless, the bourse saw a massive rebound in the subsequent sessions.

KATHMANDU, Feb 4: A sharp sell off early in the morning pushed the local benchmark more than 20 points lower within the first 15 minutes of Thursday’s session. A recovery ensued as the index recouped all of its morning losses by mid-day. The Nepse index plateaued thereafter but managed to close in green on the back of gains seen in some of the composite sectors. Nepse capped the week with a 8.34-point’s daily gain at 2,475.27.

KATHMANDU, Feb 3: Strength from the prior trading session carried over to Wednesday as stocks traded firmly higher in the morning. Nepse traded over 2,500 briefly in the morning, touching the uncharted mark for the first time in history. Nonetheless, some selling pressure was evident thereafter. After pulling back below 2,500 level, the index fell further towards the close. At Wednesday’s close, Nepse ended at 2,466.92 – down a modest 6.81 points against the session earlier.

Stocks end higher after early week rout

KATHMANDU, Feb 2: The local bourse began Tuesday’s trading in green as stocks extended prior day’s advance. The index saw further strength in the afternoon and traded in positive territory throughout the remaining trading hours. A steady advance throughout the session saw Nepse end with a notable 65.49 point’s gain at 2,473.74.

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) has suspended the share transactions of two government-owned listed companies — Rastriya Beema Company and Bishal Bazaar Company Ltd in the secondary market for failing to abide by the government rule.

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) opened week with a notable gain with the benchmark rallying over 5-points on Sunday. Strength in the equity market carried over to Monday’s trading where Nepse rose another 16 points. Stocks swung between losses and gains thereafter. KATHMANDU, Jan 20: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index opened in green in the morning but the index pulled back lower within first trading hour saw the index trade in the negative territory. Later on, the index managed to recover quickly and traded on the positive note in the latter hours of trading.  At the end, the equity market closed at 2,342.77 points with a gain of 15.87 points.

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: The equity market opened this week’s trading with considerable strength as the Nepse index shot up by 88.11 points on Sunday. The benchmark fell marginally on Monday and Tuesday’s trading with declines of 6.35 and 3.54 points, respectively. Stocks, nonetheless, recouped mid-week losses in the latter trading sessions of the week. The broad index rose 13.07 points on Wednesday with further advance of 15.91 points on Thursday. The equity market closed at 2,194.49 with a weekly gain tally of 107.21 points or 5.14%.

A steady decline in the afternoon saw the index give up most of the earlier gains to close session at 2,012.89 – up5.57 points against the session earlier.

Nepse begins week with a 40-point decline

Dec 28: The equity market opened in green in the morning but a sharp fall in the beginning hour saw the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index trade in negative territory by mid-day. The benchmark remained under pressure throughout the remaining trading session to register a loss of 39.90 points. Nepse ended Sunday’s trading at 1,998.73.

KATHMANDU, Dec 25: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losses from the week earlier fueled by the political turmoil on Sunday. The benchmark tanked almost 100 points in Sunday’s session but the stock market found a firm footing after witnessing a sharp rebound on Monday. After falling almost 60 points, the index ended Monday with a 30-point advance. The strength carried over to Tuesday’s trading with the index rallying over 95 points. The momentum subsided slightly as the market witnessed a gain of seven points on Wednesday followed by a 30 point’s decline on Thursday. Consequently, the index registered a weekly gain of 6.11 or 0.30% points to settle at 2038.63.

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: After opening Thursday’s session in the green, the local equity market cut its gains quickly to trade in the negative territory within the first trading hour. Thereafter, the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index remained under the opening level and witnessed a steady decline to close trading at 2,038.63 – down 29.83 points against Wednesday’s close.

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: The local share market opened Wednesday’s trading in an upbeat note climbing over 2,100’s level in the morning. The index retraced sharply within the beginning trading hour and hovered around 2,100 mark at mid-day. Stocks saw further decline in the latter trading hours pushing the benchmark towards the opening level. At the close, Nepse stood at 2,068.46 – up a modest 7.04 points against the session earlier.

KATHMANDU, Dec 20: The stock exchange market on Sunday went down  96.88 points on the back of the political uncertainty created by Prime Minister KP Oli's move to dissolve the federal parliament.

The local benchmark index fell more than 50 points in the first few minutes of trading but attempted a recovery in the morning. Nonetheless, the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index failed to reach the opening level and traded in the red throughout the remaining trading hours. A steady downfall saw the index tumble more than 120 points on Sunday to settle at 1,932.11.

KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Stocks witnessed one of the best trading days in the last couple of months on Thursday. Stocks maintained positive bias throughout the trading session with the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index trading around 10 points higher in the beginning hour. The index plateaued at mid-day but considerable strength in the latter hours pushed the index 30.78points higher to close at 1,572.18.

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The benchmark Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index hovered slightly in green in the opening hours after Tuesday’s trading session. However, extended profit booking pulled the index sharply lower in the afternoon where the index fell as much as 10 points. The index found some footing in the latter hours recouping some of the earlier losses but closed in the red nonetheless. Nepse fell 4.47 points at the session’s close to end at 1,536.04 points.
