The proposal calls for banning polythin bags in the city. [break]It also calls for encouraging afforestation to protect the environment and raises awareness concerning pollution to make Pokhara a hub for tourists.
The students, in partnership with Brent Side High School of London, UK, had studied for six months and prepared the proposal. They were in the capital to submit their proposal to President Yadav. They also visited the Constituent Assembly (CA) on November 4 to apprise the CA members of the proposed plan.
The proposal was prepared by the students with the support of the British Council under its Global School Partnerships (GSP) program.
Earlier on November 3, British Council organized an interaction program with the students of Pokhara to brief about their projects. The students of the Karunanidhi School, one of the GSP schools, took the lead in preparing the plan.
Before the submission, 57 students of grade 10 from the school, along with five teachers and staff, went on a five-day educational tour to spread awareness regarding their plan.
Vaishali Pradhan, Country Manager of Global School Partnership (GSP), said, “Global School Partnership promotes partnership with global schools of Nepal with the schools of UK in order to promote global education.
The main objective of the interaction program in Kathmandu was to provide a platform to inform the activities and share the ideas of the students of Karunanidhi School.”
Binod Paudel, a student of Karunadhi School, shared, “With the support of GPS and through the educational tour, I learned a lot. Through the plan that we worked out with the theme of green revolution, we want to implement and promote the idea of preserving our cultural heritages by controlling pollution and also put forward our plans of sustainable development.”
The GSP program aims to motivate young people´s commitment to a fairer, more sustainable world, through partnerships between UK schools and schools in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. In Nepal, the program supports pre-primary, primary and secondary schools (Government, private, and faith-based) in developing partnerships with suitable schools in the UK.
