KATHMANDU, Aug 15: A man died on the spot when a truck hit and dragged her scooter which was stopped by traffic police in Ghattaghar, Bhaktapur on Thursday. The truck (Na 6 Ba 2173) struck the scooter (Ba 49 Pa 8944) after the vehicle was stopped by police for inspection.

The truck driver applied the brakes but was unable to avoid the collision, causing the scooter to be dragged about 20 meters. The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined. 

Following the accident, a protest broke out, causing tension at the scene and disrupting vehicular movement. The protestors even vandalized a few vehicles and stopped the police from removing the body from the incident site.

*It was initially believed that the body belonged to Sushma Nepali, as her brother had claimed. But after she contacted the police, it was confirmed that the identity was mistaken, and a bluebook found at the scene suggests the deceased might be Uttam Koirala, though it is still being investigated, said DSP Rajan Karki at the District Police Range, Bhaktapur.
